I liked the overall story. The writing was engaging and the world building unique but not overly complex. Mr. Coughlan does a good job in conveying the sense of an alternate world, and deftly handles the risk of writing outside of his culture. The only part of the tale that didn't work for me is the ending, which, while a great twist in the abstract, was never once foreshadowed and felt rushed, therefore left me feeling a bit cheated. That being said, I'll read it through again to see if I missed something along the way. It's worth a second read. I've never regretted time spent rereading a good book. Treat yourself.Product details

This story is about a warrior trying to get the infant princess of a fallen people away from soul diviners that hold his blood. He is a coward in his own eyes but this reader found him a hero with no escape.
I loved this story, but it wasn't long enough!
I hope Noel Coughlan will write more about the characters.

I liked the setting and the plight of the main character. Characterisation was spot on throughout the story. Writing was very good, solid and with great economy. Well recommended.
